New IMO Emission Rules: What Egypt's Ports Are Doing

The International Maritime Organization's Tier III nitrogen oxide emission standards came into full force for new vessels operating in Egyptian waters on 1 January 2026. Felix Maritime has been working with the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency and the Suez Canal Authority to ensure that all vessels we handle are compliant with the updated requirements.

What Changes for Operators

Vessels built after 1 January 2021 that fall within the Tier III scope are now required to carry an updated International Air Pollution Prevention (IAPP) certificate. Felix Maritime will request this document as part of the standard pre-arrival documentation check for all applicable vessels.

Shore Power Initiative

Hurghada Marina is currently piloting a shore power connection scheme that would allow vessels to shut down their generators while in berth. Felix Maritime is coordinating the technical specifications with the marina operator and expects the pilot to be fully operational by September 2026.
